WHAT WILL YOU LEARN IN THE COURSE?
The DPV Diver PSAI course develops the skills required for the safe and efficient use of an underwater scooter in open water.
During the training, you will learn:

- types and models of underwater scooters
- the construction and operating principles of a DPV
- proper DPV trim adjustment

The aim of the course is to prepare divers to confidently plan and safely conduct dives using an underwater scooter.
Course Information
- Minimum Age: In accordance with PSAI standards for the participant’s current diving certification.
- Open Water Diver or an equivalent certification, and a minimum of 10 logged dives.
- Equipment requirements: A backplate with a wide crotch strap, diving equipment appropriate for the diving conditions, and a DPV prepared for the course.
- Health requirements: A health condition that allows participation in the course
- Course duration: 2 days
- History of the DPV, types and models of underwater scooters, DPV dive planning, team positioning, and the construction, operation, and maintenance of a DPV.
- Dry workshops: DPV trim adjustment, tow cord length adjustment, internal construction and operating principles, and preparing the DPV for the dive.
- Practical training: 3–4 open water dives
- Depth range: 5 to 20 metres
- Practical exercises: Trim and buoyancy control with a DPV, emergency braking, collision avoidance manoeuvres, towing a diver with a failed DPV, gas sharing, and teamwork.
- AOWD Speciality: This course may be credited as one of the specialty courses required for the Advanced Open Water Diver program.

HOW DOES THE COURSE WORK?
From understanding the construction of a DPV to safely conducting DPV dives in open water.
THEORY AND PLANNING
You will learn about the different types of DPVs, their applications, DPV dive planning, and effective team organisation.
Dry Workshops
You will learn how to trim a DPV, adjust the tow cord, prepare the unit for diving, and identify its key components.
IN-WATER PRACTICE
During 3–4 dives, you will practise trim, manoeuvring, braking, emergency procedures, and teamwork with your dive buddy.
