The PSAI Assistant Instructor course develops the skills needed to organize dives, lead groups, and assist instructors during training.

The aim of the course is to prepare divers to responsibly lead certified divers, assist instructors, and begin their further instructor training.
COURSE INFORMATION
- Minimum age: 18 years
- Prerequisites: Advanced Open Water Sport Diver PSAI or an equivalent certification, Rescue Diver PSAI or an equivalent dive rescue qualification, valid First Aid/CPR certification, and a minimum of 100 logged dives completed after earning the Advanced Open Water Sport Diver certification.
- Medical Requirements: A valid medical examination confirming fitness to participate in the course.
- Theory: History of PSAI and other diving organizations, responsibilities of the Dive Leader and Assistant Instructor, dive organization, emergency procedures, stress management, legal considerations, and examination preparation.
- Confined Water Training: Swimming tests, donning ABC equipment underwater, donning SCUBA equipment underwater, breath-hold exercises with ABC and SCUBA equipment, emergency procedures, and assisting the instructor during training.
- Open Water Training: Equipment check, conducting dive briefings, removing and replacing the weight belt underwater, buddy system techniques, out-of-gas procedures, recovering an unconscious diver from the bottom, towing and providing first aid, and a simulated decompression stop at 5 m for 5 minutes.
- Qualification Dive: Conducted in open water.
- Maximum Depth: 40 metres
- Theory Examination: Final examination in accordance with the PSAI standards.

An Advanced Open Water Sport Diver PSAI certification or an equivalent qualification is required.
Rescue Diver & First Aid
Candidates must hold a valid Rescue Diver certification and current First Aid/CPR qualifications.
DIVING EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 100 logged dives completed after earning the Advanced Open Water Sport Diver certification, as well as a valid medical clearance for diving, are required.
