PSAI ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR

This course is designed for individuals who wish to further develop their skills. Upon completion of this course, you can proceed to an instructor course, which also provides the opportunity to pursue a professional career in diving.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CANDIDATES:

• minimum age of 18

• possession of the Advanced Open Water Sport Diver certification or equivalent

• possession of the Rescue Diver certification (Diving Rescue) + First Aid/CPR

• logged minimum of 100 dives, after obtaining the Advanced Open Water Sport Diver certification

• current medical examination

THEORETICAL SESSIONS:

• history of PSAI diving and other organizations

• duties of a Diver Leader - Guide - Assistant Instructor

• dive organization

• emergency procedures

• stress management

• legal standards

• exam

PRACTICAL POOL SESSIONS:

• swimming tests

• dressing in ABC equipment underwater

• dressing in SCUBA equipment underwater

• breath-hold exercises with ABC and SCUBA equipment

• emergency procedures

• assisting the instructor during training

PRACTICAL OPEN WATER SESSIONS:

• equipment check

• briefing

• removing and replacing the weight belt underwater

• buddy system techniques

• procedures in case of air loss

• recovery of an unconscious diver from the bottom, towing, and first aid

• simulation of a 5m/5min decompression stop

EXAMINATION DIVES

• maximum depth 40m

ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR PRIVILEGES:

• can dive up to 40 meters

• supervise and conduct independent dives for certified divers under conditions similar to the skills possessed by the respective Dive Leader

• can assist an active PSAI instructor during courses whose program does not exceed the skills possessed by the respective Dive Leader.

• can enroll in an instructor course
