Advanced Open Water Sidemount Diver

ADVANCED OPEN WATER SIDEMOUNT DIVER

The PSAI Advanced Sidemount course at the Open Water level aims to teach proper handling of two sidemount cylinders and stage cylinders (in the quantity determined by the candidate's qualifications) during dives in open water. The course will cover equipment configuration, its components, their proper maintenance, as well as procedures and techniques characteristic of the sidemount configuration enriched with additional stage cylinders.

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS:

• 2 cylinders (steel cylinders with left and right valves recommended) equipped with appropriate attachments

• stage cylinder(s) with oxygen cleanliness

• 2 first stages for main cylinders, one with a 2m hose

• 1 or 2 (depending on qualifications) AO (Advanced Oxygen) cleanliness stages

• 2 pressure gauges (main cylinders) + 2 oxygen cleanliness pressure gauges (stages) - all with 10-15cm hoses

• sidemount harness with buoyancy compensator

• appropriate drysuit for diving conditions (drysuit highly recommended)

• depth and time measuring device

• lighting adapted to course conditions (minimum 2 sources)

• 2 depth and time measuring devices

• spare mask

• surface marker buoy with reel

• slate with pencil

PREREQUISITES:

Each candidate must hold Basic Sidemount Diver certification and have current medical examinations.

COURSE DURATION:

• approximately 2-3 hours of lectures

• minimum 60 minutes of pool or pool-like water sessions

• minimum of 3 dives in open water to the maximum depth for which the candidate is qualified, with a minimum total bottom time of 75 minutes. Only the third dive can be planned and conducted as a decompression dive provided the participant has appropriate qualifications for decompression diving
